After two years in prison, Bronx drill rapper Dthang, aka Dthang GZ, just released his new track/music video, “Hard Knock Life / Last Day In,” flipping a sample riding a fire beat from the musical Annie, displaying his knack for choosing obscure samples that add luscious movement.
The clean ditty bop rolls back and forth, moving with a tight and right swaying motion. The sample is both unexpected and lit. Dthang notti bops to the track’s jingle-lite feel as he takes the rhymes and infuses them with his distinctive flow.

“It’s a hard knock life for me and my muddies / All the shit that we been through and did (Boom) / Like, damn, I was locked in a box with all of my thoughts / Like, how I’ma get out this shit? (Gang-gang-gang) / So I gotta stick to the plan and stay out the way.”
The recognizable vocals of “Hard Knock Life” intertwine with flavors of hip-hop and drill music, exploring Dthang’s indestructibility and resolve to transform his life.
