Kendrick Lamar, and SZA’s chart-topping collaboration “Luther” spent its 13 consecutive weeks in the week of May 24, 2024 on the Billboard Hot 100. This track became one of 15 singles at the top of the chart for the long run since the Hot 100 in 1958.
The “Luther” song pays tribute to the late R&B legend, Luther Vandross, who interpolated this track, which made SZA’s third and Kendrick Lamar’s sixth chart-topping albums. Regardless of “week-over-week” slumps above the metrics, the song had lasting forces: 63.4 million in radio audience (decreased 3%), 18.3 million download streaming (decreased 5%), and selling 2,000 digital copies in the week of May 9 – 15.
The Source stated that “‘Luther’ extends its reign with a 21st week atop both Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs and Hot Rap Songs. It now ties SZA’s own “Kill Bill” for the third-longest stay at No. 1 on Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs and sits one week away from matching Lamar’s “Not Like Us” (22 weeks) for the all-time record. On Hot Rap Songs, it stands alone at No. 2 for longest rule, trailing only “Not Like Us” (26 weeks).”
