WickedTwin: Rising from Lynchburg, VA with Murda Genes in His DNA
In the vast world of Hip-Hop, where authenticity often makes the difference between fleeting fame and legendary status, Lynchburg, Virginia’s own WickedTwin is emerging as a voice from the streets, both unapologetic and raw. Hailing from a city that sits four hours away from the buzz of D.C. and Charlotte, WickedTwin is representing a music scene where many rappers get stuck in the “local” box. But he’s determined to break out and show the world that real talent can come from anywhere—even from a place where success in the rap game has “never been done before.”
With a unique mix of DMV flavor and a southern flow, WickedTwin’s style is unmistakable. He embodies the gritty and relentless energy of the streets, something he says has been shaped by his own life experiences. “Everything I do, nobody believes in it until it happens,” he says. “From the streets to the industry, my hood—we’re the smallest, but we make sure we’re known.”
His new track, “Murda Genes,” is a perfect reflection of this mentality. “I knew it was gon’ start some shidd,” he says with a smirk. And he wasn’t wrong. With hard-hitting beats, the track is something for everyone—whether you’re in the club twerking or throwing up your set. But beyond the hype, it’s a deep dive into WickedTwin’s world. “It’s just me telling y’all real life,” he explains. “I’ve been surrounded by killas my whole life, so it’s in my genes.”
WickedTwin draws inspiration from some of the rawest, realest names in Hip-Hop. He’s often compared to C-Murder, with a grimy and unpolished style that feels like it came straight from the block. But his influences don’t stop there. Legends like DMX, Tupac, King Von, and DaRealGeeMoney shaped his perspective on life and music, but it’s Soulja K from Jacksonville who’s had the biggest impact on him.
“Soulja K my biggest inspiration. We turned a feature into being damn near best friends,” WickedTwin reveals. He even considers himself a part of Soulja Lyfe Kampaign (SLK), despite knowing it brings drama and beef with rivals. “The opps wanna make diss songs saying ‘game over’ and putting the Julio bottle on their head,” he says, referring to the constant back-and-forth with his adversaries. “But me rappin’ and responding is motivation to speak up for the ones who are no longer here, and also tell my story.”
WickedTwin’s story is one of survival against all odds. From shootouts to losing his son to gun violence at just six years old, every hardship has fueled his art. He’s 26 now and still standing strong, despite those who doubted he’d even make it this far. “Losing my son made me channel that anger and pain into music instead of what I really wanted to do,” he admits. But it’s clear that music is not just a career for WickedTwin—it’s his therapy and his weapon in the fight against those who wish to see him fail.
As for what fans need to know about him, WickedTwin keeps it real. “I’m just a gang member tryna get to the top the only way I can. I’ll always remain humble and true to my morals,” he says. With pride in his roots and loyalty to his set, WickedTwin represents the hood on his terms. And while the word “wicked” might throw some off, he quickly clarifies: “Wicked don’t mean anything demonic—it’s just another word for gangsta. Twin came from me being a Gemini.”
With “Murda Genes” lighting up the streets and his name buzzing in circles far beyond Lynchburg, WickedTwin is poised to make sure the world knows his name. His music is a testament to the struggles he’s faced, and his rise is a reminder that no matter where you come from, the hustle speaks for itself.
Long live 6 and long live 8—WickedTwin is here, and he’s just getting started.
