Fans waited for a very long time to hear new music. Bryson Tiller published his self-titled album on April 5 through RCA Records.
“My main goal with this album is for the masses to hear everything I’m capable of doing,” said Tiller, who stated in the Billboard interview. “So they give me a chance and stick around as fans. My main goal is that everybody hears it and my guarantee is that you’ll love at least one song from this album. I can guarantee that.”
Tiller’s self-titled album produced 19 tracks, and it featured two special guests such as Victoria Monet on “Persuasion”, and Clara La San on “Random Access Memory {RAM}”. It also includes previous singles: “Outside”, “Calypso”, and “Whatever She Wants”. The single, “Whatever She Wants” gained Tiller his first top 20 hit since his 2015 single, “Don’t” on the Billboard Hot 100, and “Whatever She Wants” debuted in the top 10 on the Billboard Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs.
Tiller also mentioned about the “Calypso” song. It is considered as a “most story-driven song” than his two released singles. He created “Calypso” as a movie where he wanted to share a story about a guy’s previous relationship with a woman.
“It is just a movie, top-to-bottom. It’s about a guy going to the club and looking at the guest list and realizing his name is on there next to a girl he used to date. He never forgot her name because she wore her name on her necklace,” Tiller said “They get inside the club and it’s empty. Maybe it’s not empty and it’s a vibe, but it reminds them of a time in the club when it was packed. That song comes on, ‘Just like magic they playing our song.’ It’s just like, ‘We gotta get one last dance in.’ The guy’s hoping he can go home with her that night, but it doesn’t end up that way.”
Tiller’s self-titled album is his fourth studio album which came four years after the release of “Anniversary” which manifested the fifth anniversary of his debut album, “Trapsoul”. “Anniversary” involved collaborations such as Drake with “Outta Time”, and “Still Yours” which featured Big Sean, on the deluxe edition. It produced 10 tracks. It peaked at No. 5 on the Billboard 200, and peaked at No. 4 on the Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums, respectfully.
