Kirz: From the Streets of Lagos to International Heights
The Nigerian music scene is exploding on a global scale, and one of the artists making waves in the diaspora is Kirz, a talented Afro-fusion artist with roots in Ihioma, Imo State, Nigeria. Growing up in the bustling streets of Lagos before relocating to Brazil, Kirz has experienced the world from a unique perspective, and it’s that worldview that informs his deeply personal music. “The world knows how big the Nigerian music scene has become since the pandemic,” he says. “Nigeria is the home of the best artists in the world with big names like Burna Boy, Davido, Wizkid, Rema, Asake, Tiwa Savage, Ayra Star, and many others. Now, everybody craves Afrobeat music.”
Kirz proudly represents the rise of Nigerian music and its recognition on a global stage, including Grammy nominations and wins. His music isn’t just about riding the wave of Afrobeat popularity; it’s about telling stories. “Life experiences contribute to the uniqueness of an artist,” Kirz explains. “My experiences are embedded in my lyrics. Every artist has a story, and mine often reflects my experiences, emotions, and visions.”
Inspired by Life, People, and Nature
For Kirz, inspiration doesn’t come from a single source—it comes from everything around him. “My greatest source of inspiration comes from the people and experiences around me,” he says. “Every interaction, narrative, and emotion I experience has the chance of igniting fresh ideas that I channel into my music. I also find inspiration in nature, art, and the diversity of human experiences.”
His creative process is dynamic, often sparked by the smallest moments. A conversation, a quiet moment in nature, or an unexpected emotion can shape the direction of a song. For Kirz, the world is his muse, and he stays open to everything it has to offer.
Deeply Personal Music
“One thing fans should know is that every piece of music I create is deeply personal,” Kirz shares. His approach to music is not just about creating hits but about connecting with people on a profound level. “I love melodies a lot; that’s why I don’t play with my backups,” he says. “It’s not just about the final product but also about the journey of creation and the stories that come with it.”
Kirz pours his heart into every track, ensuring that each lyric and note is a reflection of who he is. When fans listen to his music, they’re not just hearing a song—they’re getting a glimpse into his life, his emotions, and his story.
Latest Release: “Gold Digger”
Kirz’s latest track, “Gold Digger,” is a prime example of his deeply personal approach to music. The song was born from a real-life experience that he wanted to express through his art. “I was in a relationship with someone who felt I was a Gold Digger, and the best way to express myself is by singing,” he explains.
After taking a break from recording, his producer Nytrobeatz reached out with a new beat. “Kirz, I got something for you, so come over to the studio,” Nytrobeatz told him. Kirz recalls stepping into the booth and freestyling the intro, chorus, and first verse right on the spot. The next day, he returned to finish the second verse, allowing himself to bring fresh energy to the track.
“I don’t like recording both verses on the same day because I want to come with a different energy and switch things up,” Kirz explains. The result is a song filled with raw emotion, personal reflection, and a testament to his artistry.
