A Return to the Top
SZA’s album “SOS” returned to the number one position for a 13th consecutive week on the Billboard 200 album chart in the week of May 3, 2025. Luminate reported that the album rose from number three to number one. It received 52,000 equivalent album units in the United States in the week ending April 24th, a decrease of 1%.
The Role of the Deluxe Edition
The continued commercial success of “SOS” comes from a deluxe album titled “SOS Deluxe: LANA.” This extended version added 15 tracks along with the February release, which features four bonus tracks. SOS was released in December 2022 with 23 tracks. It spent 10 consecutive weeks at number one. Then it returned for two more weeks after the release of LANA in early 2025. The entire version of “SOS” was combined based on the marketing circumstances.
A Record-Breaking Milestone
According to The Source, “this 13th week at No. 1 marks the most weeks atop the chart for an R&B/hip-hop or R&B album by a woman since Whitney Houston’s self-titled album in 1986. The last R&B/hip-hop album to spend at least 13 weeks at No. 1 was Drake’s ‘Views’ in 2016. In addition, the last R&B album to do so was ‘The Bodyguard’ soundtrack.”
Tour and Chart Movement
Meanwhile, SZA is currently on her co-headlining “Grand National Tour” with Kendrick Lamar, and his latest album “GNX” peaks at number two on the Billboard 200. However, since there are new entries in this week’s top 10 on the Billboard 200, Doechii’s Alligator Bites Never Heal reached a new peak from 24 to 10.
