Kendrick Lamar and SZA’s “Luther” Spends 13th Week at No. 1
Kendrick Lamar and SZA’s hit collaboration “Luther” has topped the Billboard Hot 100 for a 13th straight week. This achievement occurred in the week of May 24, 2024. As a result, the track became one of 15 singles to spend a long run at the top since the chart began in 1958.
The song pays tribute to the late R&B legend Luther Vandross. Furthermore, the track interpolates his music. Consequently, it helped SZA earn her third chart-topping album and Lamar his sixth. However, the song saw some week-over-week slumps. Specifically, it earned 63.4 million in radio audience, which was down 3%. Additionally, it garnered 18.3 million streams, a decrease of 5%. Finally, it sold 2,000 digital copies in the week of May 9–15.
According to The Source, “‘Luther’ extends its reign with a 21st week atop both Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs and Hot Rap Songs.” Currently, it ties SZA’s own “Kill Bill” for the third-longest stay at No. 1 on Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs. Moreover, it sits just one week away from matching Lamar’s “Not Like Us” (22 weeks) for the all-time record. On Hot Rap Songs, it stands alone at No. 2 for the longest rule. It trails only “Not Like Us,” which holds the record at 26 weeks.
