Mahalia released her latest single, The 5 Stages of Heartbreak, on October 23, 2026, via BMG. With this release, she started her new journey as an independent artist. For this Contemporary R&B track, she explored the pain and heartache from her previous relationship. She explained that she took it as a learning experience.
“I am so unbelievably proud to give ‘the 5 stages of heartbreak’ to the world. This feels like a debut in so many ways because it’s my first record as an independent artist. But, I also feel so seasoned in my craft now,” said Mahalia. “After 14 years writing, making and releasing music, I can confidently say that this is my proudest moment. This is the most ‘me’ I have ever felt and the most excited I have been about what comes next in a long time. This song is just the beginning of what’s to come. It’s been a year of grief, heartbreak, messiness and growth. I hope you can feel it and I can’t wait to show you more!”
