Mary J. Blige’s ‘Family Affair’ on Lifetime: Plot, Cast, and Details
Mary J. Blige has signed a new deal to executive produce several original movies for Lifetime. Her latest project is “Family Affair,” featuring Ajiona Alexus and Da’Vinchi. The pair will reprise their roles from the previous films in the franchise.
Inspired by Blige’s hit song of the same name, the movie continues the love story of Kendra (Alexus) and Ben (Da’Vinchi). This saga began with the 2023 Lifetime films Mary J. Blige’s “Real Love” and Mary J. Blige’s “Strength of a Woman”.
The Story So Far
To understand the new film, it helps to look back at the previous installments. As Lifetime previously reported, the love story started when 18-year-old Kendra left home for an HBCU. There, she fell hard for Ben.
After discovering the meaning of “real love,” Kendra left Ben behind to pursue her dreams. She eventually became a successful photographer. However, when Ben unexpectedly returned, Kendra faced a crisis. She had to dig deep to find her “strength” and accept Ben’s love once again.
Plot Summary for ‘Family Affair’
The new film picks up as Kendra and Ben move out of the city. They hope to finally build a life together. However, tensions rise when their families get involved in their lives.
The couple struggles with fertility issues. Meanwhile, Kendra tries to find her footing with Ben’s son, Miles. Their relationship reaches a boiling point when Ben secretly helps his brother. At the same time, Kendra returns to the city, and an old friend comes back into her life. Ultimately, the family must come together to help Kendra and Ben save their relationship and stay true to their real love.
Cast and Production Team
Jordan and John Davis of Davis Entertainment return to executive produce. Blige will produce under her Blue Butterfly banner. Bruce Miller and Milana Edwards-Brooks serve as co-producers.
Furthermore, Alexus and Da’Vinchi are also executive producers. Troy Scott directs the film, and Rachel Ingram wrote the script.
Ratings Success
The previous films were a major success for the network. Mary J. Blige’s “Real Love” and Mary J. Blige’s “Strength of a Woman” received over 6.4 million viewers. According to Nielsen Data reviewed by Lifetime, they were the top entertainment telecasts on cable for two consecutive Saturdays.
