Kaytranada Timeless Album Returns to His Signature Sound
Kaytranada released his third album, “Timeless,” on Friday, June 7. The album feels like the pandemic never happened, bringing back the energy and excitement of Pride month with a vibrant, shimmering sound. Across 21 tracks, most under three minutes, the Haitian-Canadian “groove god” returns to the studio with renewed passion. He delivers the same creative spark that shaped 2016’s “99.9%” and his 2019 Grammy-winning album, “BUBBA.”
A Star-Studded Lineup of Collaborations
After countless studio hours and conversations with guest artists, Kaytranada created a project filled with energy and personality. “Timeless” features a Met Gala-style lineup of artists, including funk psychedelic powerhouse Anderson .Paak, Childish Gambino, pop vocalist Tinashe, and Ravyn Lenae. Each guest blends naturally into the album, creating the feeling of a freestyle lounge where every artist takes their turn on the mic.
Kaytranada’s Production Keeps the Groove Alive
Kaytranada’s production balances house music’s movement with the soulful influence of J Dilla’s signature style. His sound remains unique and instantly recognizable. Tracks like “Still” with Charlotte Day Wilson highlight his ability to merge classic pop elements with electronic grooves. Meanwhile, “Drip Sweat” featuring Channel Tres delivers hard-hitting beats that showcase his DJ-inspired creativity.
Although Kaytranada explores elements of hyperpop, Brazilian funk, and modern dance music, “Timeless” stays connected to his roots. The album may not represent a dramatic reinvention, but it proves his ability to create engaging and memorable music.
